The Market Insights Programme (MIP) was held over 12 weeks and ended on 1 October 2019 with high quality presentations from interns showcasing their work developed to further their host companies Asia strategy.

The programme was delivered in three locations across New Zealand, Auckland, Wellington and Waikato. Each location facilitated internship placements for all three CAPE regions, North Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Throughout the programme, there were expert-led workshops, for both interns and businesses, and mentoring sessions to support the interns to complete their projects.

We had the pleasure of working with BNZ, ExportNZ and BECA to host informative sessions on: Doing Business in the Asia Pacific Region, Marketing to Asia Pacific, and Global Competence in the Asia Pacific Region.

At the end of the placement, interns presented on the project of work over the 12 weeks. Each intern was guided to complete an Asia-specific report in the time period. The presentations were a great way to hear first-hand cross-cultural insights, in company learning, and the benefits companies gained by being involved in MIP.

The winners of the NA CAPE MIP were Pratibha Singh, along with her host business ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events, and Economic Development).

Pratibha’s project focused on a high-level overview of Colombia and Brazil’s study abroad market. The outcome of her project resulted in two customer journey maps for Brazil and Colombia, and an index of potential partner education agencies in these markets to promote Auckland to Latin America.

There was clear value for both businesses and the interns participating in the programme.

Pratibha Singh summarized MIP as a “Personally and professionally insightful and impactful internship program that gives you hands-on business experience.”

We understand how valuable it is for students to have a practical component as part of their learning process. And also, the caliber of the student was impressive. Great value” (ATEED)

We would like to thank our host businesses: ATEED, Comvita, Ecostore, Wahiki, Datatech, Eat the Kiwi, Meltrons. Thank you for supporting our students through the programme and providing such a rewarding experience for them.

We would also like to acknowledge our partners BNZ, BECA, and Export NZ for hosting expert speakers at the workshops.
