New Zealand – Hangzhou Sister School Partnership Programme

Urgent call for Expressions of Interest

The Centres of Asia Pacific Excellence (CAPEs) are committed to enhancing New Zealand’s economic engagement and cultural understanding with the Asia-Pacific region. The CAPEs are supported by a consortium of New Zealand's four leading universities: Auckland, Waikato, Otago, and Victoria University of Wellington.

Together with the University of Waikato’s Institute of Professional Learning (IPL) and the Education Bureau of Hangzhou, five New Zealand schools are invited to establish formal partnerships with counterpart schools in Hangzhou.

Through IPL facilitation, schools will codesign and deliver a curriculum embedded programme of inter-cultural learning in areas of thematic or academic relevance, with opportunities for ongoing inquiry and teacher and learner exchange.

About Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China:

• Located 200km south of Shanghai, population of over five million
• Hosted the 2016 G20, will host the 2022 Asian Games.
• A logistics and manufacturing hub.
• HQ of world’s largest online retailer, Alibaba.
• Innovation and technology is a growing sector.

The opportunity:

• Return airfares to Hangzhou, accommodation, and living costs for each selected school.
• $8000 scholarship to cover teacher and principal release time and ongoing collaboration.
• Primary and secondary schools
• Ongoing PLD support from IPL
• October 28th – November 4^th

This opportunity is for one principal and one teacher per school. In 350 words, describe the significance of inter-cultural and international learning to New Zealand, and how your school will use this opportunity to bring such learning to life for your community.
